As you can imagine, brake failures are serious business, so when the Feds consider expansion of Ford F-150 brake recall, we pay attention and pass information on to our customers. Here, we’ll provide you with the latest update.

The Ford F-150 brake recall was initially issued for the 2013 and 2014 Ford models, but the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has since received 10 complaints on the 2015 models, and 15 complaints on the 2016 models, prompting them to issue a wider recall.

The original complaints reported by drivers ranged from experiencing complete brake failure to having the brake pedal go completely to the floor. In some instances, the brake light did or did not illuminate a warning. The agency said that about 420,000 pickups with 3.5-liter, six-cylinder engines from 2013 and 2014 could be prone to brake failures.

Fords F-Series pickups are the top-selling vehicle in the U.S., selling over 780,000 last year alone.  So, Ford is taking the recall very seriously and will no doubt rectify the issue as soon as possible, stating, “We take the safety of our customers very seriously, and we will cooperate with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on this investigation, as we always do.”

The reason why the Feds consider expansion of Ford F-150 brake recall may be due to the fact that federal regulators have been under pressure from Congress, which has recently stepped-up scrutiny of the U.S. auto industry after a number of recalls raised concerns about car safety issues.

Whether you have one of these models mentioned above or are experiencing braking problems, it is important to take the necessary steps and call TSC Ford Specialist or your dealership as soon as you can.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not yet indicated whether it believes the same mechanical issues are the cause of braking issue for the two generations of trucks, but your local Ford technician can provide further information on the topic. Or you can check out all of Ford’s recalls and relevant information at The Ford Motor Company Media Center.
